The Commercial Bank of Ethiopia has announced that individuals who have withdrawn money during the system problem will be held liable by law if they do not return it by the end of this week.

The bank’s president, Abe Sano, told BBC News Day that customers who took money that did not belong to them would be identified to the police if they did not return it by the end of the week.

“They transferred digitally. We know them because they are our customers. What they have done is required by law. We will inform the police about their identity,” he said.

The Commercial Bank of Ethiopia on Friday March 6/2016 related to the process of reforming the money transfer system. It will be recalled that during the night when there was a problem, many customers had transferred more than the amount in their accounts.

According to the bank’s president, most of the customers, who are university students, thought that the bank had been cyber-attacked when the incident occurred, and they did not feel that their identities were known if they were transferring money.

Mr. Abe said, “There are people who are now returning the money they took because their money transfer has been discovered.”
