በሰሜናዊ ሞዛምቢክ የመጓጓዣ አገልግሎት እየሰጠች የነበረች ጀልባ ሰጥማ አብዛኞቹ ሕጻናት የሆኑ ቢያንስ የ90 ሰዎች ሕይወት አለፈ።

አደጋው ያጋጠመባት የናምፑላ ግዛት ኃላፊዎች በመርከቧ ተሳፍረው ከነበሩት 130 ሰዎች እስካሁን በሕይወት የተገኙ ሰዎች አምስት ናቸው ብለዋል።

የናፑላ ግዛት ዋና ፀሐፊ ጄይሚ ኔቶ ተጓዦቹ አደጋው የገጠማቸው በአካባቢያቸው የተከሰተውን የኮሌራ ወረርሽኝ ሲሸሹ ነው ብለዋል።

ኔቶ “ጀልባዋ ከአቅሟ በላይ በመጫኗ እንዲሁም ሰዎችን ለማጓጓዝ የተሠራች ባለመሆኗ ሰጥማለች” ብለዋል።

ቢቢሲ ማረጋገጥ ያልቻለው ማኅበራዊ ሚዲያዎች ላይ በስፋት የተጋራ ተንቀሳቃሽ ምስል በጀልባዋ መስመጥ ሕይወታቸው ያለፉ ሰዎች ናቸው የተባሉ የበርካታ ሰዎች አስክሬን ከባሕር ዳርቻ ጎን ተደርድሮ ያሳያል።

At least 90 people, most of them children, have died after a ferry that was providing transportation services sank in northern Mozambique.

Officials in Nampula province, where the accident happened, said five of the 130 people aboard the ship have so far been found alive.

Jaimie Neto, secretary general of Napula province, said the travelers were fleeing a cholera outbreak in their area.

“The boat sank because it was overloaded and not designed to carry people,” Neto said.

A video that has been widely shared on social media, which the BBC has not been able to confirm, shows the bodies of several people believed to have died in the sinking of the boat lying on the beach.
