የጋና ፓርላማ ከተመሳሳይ ፆታ ግንኙነቶች እና በዚህ ዙሪያ ከሚደረጉ እንቅስቃሴዎች ጋር በተያያዘ በሚከሰሱ ሰዎች ላይ ጠንከር ባለ እስር የሚቀጣ ሕግ አጸደቀ።

አዲሱ ሕግ በተመሳሳይ ፆታ ግንኙነት ውስጥ መሆናቸውን የሚገልጹ እንዲሁም ሆነው የተገኙ ሰዎችን እስከ ሦስት ዓመት በሚደርስ እስር፣ ቡድኖችን የሚያቋቁሙ እና በገንዘብ የሚደግፉ እስከ አምስት ዓመት እስር እንዲቀጡ ያደርጋል።

የአገሪቱ ሕግ አውጪዎች የእስር ቅጣቱ ወደ ማኅበረሰብ አገልግሎት እና የምክር ድጋፍ እንዲቀየር የተደረገውን ጥረት ተቃውመው ውድቅ አድርገውታል።

በአገሪቱ ሁለት ዋነኛ የፖለቲካ ፓርቲዎች የተደገፈው እና ፓርላማው ያጸደቀው ይህ ሕግ ተግባራዊ የሚሆነው የጋናው ፕሬዝዳንት ናና አኩፎ-አዶ በፊርማቸው ሲያጸድቁት ነው።

ፕሬዝዳንቱ ቀደም ሲል አብዛኛው የአገሪቱ ዜጎች የሚፈልጉት ከሆነ ሕጉን እንደሚያጸድቁት ተናግረው ነበር።

የተመሳሳይ ፆታ ግንኙነት በጋና ውስጥ ቀደም ብሎም ሕገወጥ ሆኖ በሦስት ዓመት እስር የሚያስቀጣ ነው።

ሕጉ “በሰዎች መሠረታዊ መብት እና ነጻነት ላይ ከባድ አደጋን የሚደቅን ነው” ሲል ባለፈው ወር አምነስቲ ኢንተርናሽናል ተቃውሞውን አሰምቶ ነበር።

የተመሳሳይ ፆታ ግንኙነት መብት ተቆርቋሪዎች አሁን የወጣው ሕግ ሰዎችን እና በዚህ ዙሪያ የሚሠሩ ማኅበራትን ለማሳደድ ስለሚውል አንዳንዶች ለመደበቅ ይገደዳሉ ብለዋል።

Ghana’s parliament has passed a law that imposes stiff prison sentences on those accused of same-sex relationships and activities related to same-sex relationships.

The new law provides for up to three years in prison for those who declare and are found to be in same-sex relationships, and up to five years for those who establish and finance gangs.

The country’s lawmakers have opposed and rejected efforts to change the prison sentence to community service and counseling.

This law, which is supported by the country’s two main political parties and approved by the parliament, will come into effect when Ghana’s president, Nana Akufo-Addo, signs it.

The President had previously said that he would approve the law if the majority of the country’s citizens wanted it.

Same-sex relationships were previously illegal in Ghana, punishable by three years in prison.

Amnesty International protested last month that the law “poses a serious threat to people’s fundamental rights and freedoms”.

Gay rights activists say that the current law is being used to persecute people and organizations that work around it, and some are forced to hide.
