Addis Ababa Mayor Adanech Abebe stated that around 11,000 people have been displaced due to the construction that started in and around the piazza in Addis Ababa a few weeks ago.
The mayor said this in a discussion broadcast by the government media yesterday, Wednesday, March 18, 2016.
The mayor, who was seen presenting a report to the Prime Minister in this discussion, said, “In total, we moved about 11 thousand people from that area [from the piazza] to a better place.”
The residents were raised because of the “corridor development” that stretches from Ras Mekonn Bridge, Mahmoud Music House, the new Adwa Victory Memorial Museum area, the four-kilometer Abrihot Library, Theodore Square to Churchill Street.
This corridor development is located in the area of 4 kilometers from the piazza and will cover about 8.1 kilometers, the mayor said.
In this report, Adanech mentioned that the majority of the immigrants are the residents of Kebele houses and said that they are 1 thousand 989 in total.
The people living in the 490 houses managed by the former Housing Agency and now the Housing Corporation have also left the area.
