ኦጎላ ከሌሎች 11 ወታደራዊ መኮንኖች ጋር ሆነው በሄሊኮፕተሩ ሲጓዙ ነው አደጋው የደረሰው። ከአደጋው የተረፉት ሁለት ሰዎች ብቻ ናቸው።
ፕሬዝዳንት ዊሊያም ሩቶ ሐሙስ ምሽት በሰጡት ጋዜጣዊ መግለጫ አደጋው ለአገሪቱ “ትልቅ ሐዘን” ነው ብለዋል።
ፕሬዝዳንቱ ቀደም ብለው የአገሪቱ የፀጥታ ምክር ቤት አባላቶቻቸውን ለአስቸኳይ ስብሰባ ጠርተው ነበር።
አደጋው የደረሰው ሐሙስ ሚያዝያ 10/2016 ዓ.ም. ከቀን 8፡20 ላይ መሆኑን ሩቶ ተናግረዋል። የኬንያ አየር ኃይል የአደጋውን መንስኤ ለማጣራት የምርመራ ቡድን አሰማርቷል።
ሄሊኮፕተሯ ከተነሳች ከደቂቃዎች በኋላ የተከሰከሰችው ከዋና ከተማዋ ናይሮቢ በስተሰሜን ምዕራብ አቅጣጫ 400 ኪሎ ሜትር ርቀት ላይ በምትገኘው ኤልጌዮ ማራክዌት መሆኑን ፕሬዝዳንት ሩቶ ተናግረዋል።
የአየር ኃይል አዛዥ እና የመከላከያ ሠራዊት ምክትል አዛዥ ሆነው ሲያገለግሉ የነበሩት ጀነራል ኦጎላ ከአንድ ዓመት በፊት ነበር የጦር አዛዥ ሆነው የተሾሙት።
ሩቶ ዋና የጦር አማካሪያቸውን በግዳጅ ላይ እያሉ ሕይወታቸው ማለፉን ገልጸዋል።
Kenyan Army Chief General Francis Omondi Ogola has died in a military helicopter crash in the western part of the country, President William Ruto has announced.
Ogola was traveling in the helicopter with 11 other military officers when the accident happened. Only two people survived the accident.
President William Ruto said at a press conference on Thursday night that the accident was a “great sadness” for the country.
The president had earlier called the members of the country’s security council for an emergency meeting.
The accident happened on Thursday, April 10/2016. Ruto said it was at 8:20. The Kenya Air Force has deployed an investigation team to investigate the cause of the crash.
President Ruto said the helicopter crashed minutes after takeoff in Elgeyo Marakwet, 400 kilometers northwest of the capital Nairobi.
General Ogola, who was serving as the Air Force Commander and Deputy Commander of the Defense Forces, was appointed as the Army Commander a year ago.
Ruto revealed that his chief military adviser had died while on duty.
